Scripture Readers for Worship Services
Read a selected Scripture passage as a part of the worship service and/or seasonal celebrations.
Assist in replenishing pew supplies in the sanctuary and the annex for Worship Services, ensuring the sanctuary and annex worship spaces are free of clutter prior to Sunday morning worship services, and maintaining worship furnishings. A group of members coordinate this ministry.
Assist the pastor in serving the elements during communion. Instructions are provided.
Ensure doors are unlocked, ensure air conditioning and heating units are operating, display the appropriate signs, display worship bulletins, coordinate activity of ushers, and remain until the church is vacant to turn off the lights and lock the doors. Usher captains serve for one month at a time.
Greet those attending the church services as they enter the sanctuary, distribute the bulletins, collect attendance pads, receive the offering, and assist as needed during the service.
Greeters for Worship Service and Special Services
Welcome members and visitors attending worship services and special services, assist parents needing nursery information, introduce the visitors to others, assist members and visitors entering the building, and invite visitors to return. Greeters serve for one week at a time at various times throughout the year.
Sound Technician for Worship Service, Special Services, and Funerals
Operate sound system, set-up the equipment prior to the services, and maintain all electronic components required for the worship services. Training is provided for members interested in this ministry.
Worship Planning and Liturgical Gifts
Worship Planning Team
Assist as we plan worship for the St. Paul Church.
Provide a training session for children wishing to serve as acolytes, schedule acolytes for service, and supervise acolytes during the worship service.
Church Seasonal Decorations
Assist with decorating designated areas of the church for special events or for specific times during the church year which include but are not limited to Advent/Easter and altar scapes.
Bake Communion Bread
Either bake or provide bread for communion. Each month the person providing needs two loaves—one for each worship service.
Chancel Choir Member
Serve in the Chancel Choir during the Worship Service and Special Services by singing hymns and leading in the musical portion of the worship services. Weekly rehearsals are on Wednesday evenings beginning at 6:30pm.
Handbell Choir Member
Serve in the Handbell Choir during the Worship Service and Special Services by ringing handbells and leading in the musical portion of the worship services. Training is provided, and weekly rehearsals are on Monday evenings beginnings at 6:00pm.
Seasonal Singing (Advent/Christmas or Lent/Easter)
As a Seasonal Singer, you may participate our worship ministry on a more temporary basis than as a member of the weekly Chancel Choir.
Occasional Vocal Ensemble and Instrumentalist
Participate in worship through presentation of a vocal or instrumental musical selection. These opportunities are available for adults and young musicians (older elementary through high school students) and are coordinated by the Director of Music Ministries.

Adult Educational Ministries
On-Going Adult Ministries
Me Third Member
Assemble quarterly with other senior adults for fellowship, food, and a program. The meetings occur during the day.
United Methodist Women [UMW]
Engage in ministry with other women through membership in the UMW. The meetings are scheduled during the day and are comprised of fellowship, devotionals, programs, and service projects. Specific ministry projects are decided by the group.
United Methodist Men (UMM)
Join other men from St. Paul UMC by participation in the UMM. Monthly meetings are comprised of fellowship, devotionals, programs, and service projects. Specific ministry projects are decided by the group.
Wednesday Night Women’s Small Group
Young Women’s Bible Study meets twice a month in a private home at 6:00pm. Young women are encouraged to come. Childcare and children’s programs are available at the church during Bible Study.
Tables of Eight
Meet in groups of eight to share a meal and fellowship together either in homes of participants or in a local restaurant. The groups usually meet quarterly.
Vacation Bible School
Celebration Yard Sign Placement
Place signs in members’ yards announcing the birth of a newborn or place birthday signs in members’ yards signifying the child’s birthday.
United Methodist Youth Fellowship (UMYF)
Hospital, Nursing Home, and Homebound Visitation Team
Assist in ministering to St. Paul UMC members who are recuperating in hospitals, residing in nursing homes, and living at home through visiting, praying, and encouragement.
Confidential Prayer Team
Pray daily, from a prepared confidential list, for individuals requesting prayers for safety, protection, healing, guidance, or other needs.
Prayer Shawl Ministry
Participate by knitting or crocheting shawls to be provided to those needing comfort and healing. Prayer shawls are also made available for infant baptisms. Volunteers work at home and in a group setting.
Assist in the scouting programs sponsored by St. Paul UMC through leadership involvement and/or participation in regular activities or special events.
Bake Sales Provider
Bake, provide, or purchase baked goods that will be used in the quarterly sales activities at St. Paul UMC. Proceeds benefit the mission work of the church.
Collecting Gifts and Supplies
Clothes Closet Provider
Assist with the maintenance, collection, distribution, and organization of clothes donated by church members to be used to help specific crisis situations.
St. Nick at St. Paul UMC Collection
Assist in the planning, organizing, and implementing a variety of methods to raise funds which will be used to provide Christmas gifts for families unable to do so independently.
UMCOR responds to natural or civil disasters that are of such magnitude that they overwhelm a community’s ability to recover on its own. UMCOR partners with local organizations and survivors to rebuild their livelihoods, health, and homes. UMCOR workers are known all over the world for their compassion, leadership, expertise and guidance in recovery efforts .Private donors can designate their gifts to our programs with the assurance that 100% will be spent on the programs.
Sort and Deliver Collections
Help package and/or transport relief supplies and gifts from the Clothes Closet, UMCOR collections, Rice Depot food gifts, etc.
Church and Parsonage Maintenance
Assist with the maintenance of the church property.
Assist with cleaning and organizing the church kitchen on a quarterly basis. A group of members coordinate these efforts.
Assist with the maintenance of the landscaping surrounding the church property, which may include trimming shrubs, raking leaves, or cleaning up debris.
Church Van Driver
Drive the van for Sunday morning worship service and special services in order to provide transportation for members requesting this service. Drivers serve for one week at a time at various times throughout the year.
My “Special” Skills
If you have a special skill whether it is a nature gift or learned skill in all likelihood there has been a need for that talent more than once in the life of St. Paul. Examples could include: carpentry, plumbing, HCAC, electrical, sewing, accounting, and gardening. Please make that information available to the church office by filling out the blank provided on the last page of your ministry menu under Helping Hands & Warm Hearts.
Doorstep Visitor (Visitor Follow-Up)
Welcome first time visitors to St. Paul UMC by delivering a prepared cookie mix gift on the Sunday afternoon following the worship service which the visitor most recently attended.
Cookie Mix Gift Preparer
Assemble provided cookie mix ingredients for delivery and ensure the church maintains an adequate supply of the cookie mix available. A group of members coordinate this ministry.
Marketing, Advertising and Communication
Assist in developing, designing and distributing various items of communication for church activities and programs.
Meals or Receptions Following Funerals
Assist in preparing or providing and serving a meal or refreshments, at the church, following a funeral or memorial service. Additional responsibilities include setting up for the event and cleaning up after the event is completed. Activities of this group will be coordinated by a Ministry Leader.

Church Life Events
Assist in preparing food, publicizing the event, decorating the facilities, setting up prior to the event, and/or cleaning up after the Church life events, such as: Halloween Carnival, Palm Sunday Egg Hunt, Mother’s Day Brunch, Father’s Day Brunch, BINGO/Ice Cream Social, Christmas Dinner, Church Picnic, Lenten and Advent Fair.
Cookies for Special Events
Bake cookies for special events and activities at St. Paul UMC. Activities of this group will be coordinated by a Ministry Leader.
Meals to Families with Newborns
Provide and deliver a meal to families with a newborn who have returned home after being discharged from the hospital.
Sunday Coffee and Fellowship Hospitality
Make coffee, set up table, and cooperate with other ministry groups in providing refreshments and an opportunity for fellowship prior to the Sunday School and 10:45am Worship Service on Sunday mornings.
Volunteer to work in the church office by answering the telephone, taking messages, greeting office visitors, and assisting with daily office activities.
Telephone Communication Tree Member
Assist in providing critical information regarding specific needs of the members of St. Paul, family members, or loved ones by means of telephone.
